A little about myself!

WHERE AM I RIGHT NOW?


Well, finally i'm back to Brazil after a long time. I left Brazil in aug 2005 when i was 23 years old coming back now in december of 2008. And is good to be back home. People ask me where i will be in 2009. I don't know if i'll go back to London or if i'll go to Canada. I feel like learning a third language already and french is the one i like most after english and my mother tongue portuguese. That's why i'm planning to live in Canada for a while. I just finished an english teacher training at Wizard. Wizard is the school of english where i'll probably be teaching in the next months. Its located in Ilheus/Bahia which is my hometown on the brazilian cost. (North East of Brazil)


>>ACCENT


People in Brazil say that i sound british. I gotta thank my closest british friends. Sam Connor (english), Simon (welsh) and Nathan (scottish) for had taught me a lot of the english language. The thing is my accent doesn't come even close to what the british accent is. In fact the british accent in UK has changed a lot from what used to be. Now is time for a new generation! My friend Sam told me once: - Junior you will never sound like me or any other british guy. And he was more than right about that! Would be like if we had the situation of someone from UK had come to Brazil to speak portuguese. That person would never speak portuguese with a brazilian accent and neither we couldn't expect him to speak with the accent from Bahia for example (the brazilian state where i am from.) My friends in the UK used to say: - 'Junior your accent is just your accent. You've got your own accent!'
And i like that. For me speaking any language (it doesnt matter wich will be) also is a way to express feelings and emotions. So i think if you do speak a language you have to speak in the way that you really do. (don't fake your accent mate!)



>>ENGLISH GRAMMAR



Brazilians usually tell me that their grammar is too poor. But i usually tell them not to worry about it. Even english people have also a poor grammar. Like my friend Leo Tavares said: "My dad doesn't know very much about english grammar." And also a lot of british guys that i have met told me that they weren't very good in grammar neither. And they could speak english very well! I would say that's relative...

I'm not saying that you guys should stop studing grammar. But just don't let the fact of not knowing grammar very well become a bareer for you to learn english for real (or improving it if you already got some knowledge in the english language.)

Hey, como estao todos voces?



ONDE EU ESTOU AGORA?


Bem, finalmente eu estou no Brasil depois de tanto tempo. Eu deixei o Brasil em agosto de 2005, quando eu tinha 23 anos, voltando agora em dezembro de 2008.

E eh bom estar de volta em casa. As pessoas me perguntam aonde eu vou estar em 2009. Eu nao sei se irei voltar pra Londres ou se irei pro Canada. Ja sinto vontade de aprender uma terceira lingua e frances eh a que eu mais gosto depois de ingles e minha lingua materna portugues. Eh por isso que estou planejando morar no Canada por um tempo. Acabei de terminar um treinamento de professores da Wizard. Wizard eh a escola de ingles aonde eu irei provavelmente ensinar nos proximos meses. Localiza-se em Ilheus/Bahia que eh a minha cidade natal no litoral brasileiro. (Nordeste do Brasil)


>>SOTAQUE


As pessoas no Brasil dizem que eu tenho sotaque britanico. Tenho que agradecer aos meus amigos britanicos mais proximos. Sam Connor (ingles), Simon (do pais de Gales) e Nathan Skirne (da Escocia) por eles terem me ensinado bastante do ingles. Mas meu sotaque nao chega perto do que o sotaque britanico eh na verdade. De fato o sotaque britanico no Reino Unido mudou bastante do que costumava ser. Agora tempo de uma nova generacao! Sam me disse uma vez: - Junior voce nunca ira falar igual a mim ou igual a outro britanico. E ele estava mais do que certo. Seria como se tivessemos a situacao de alguem do Reino Unido viesse morar no Brasil para falar portugues. Essa pessoa nunca falaria o portugues com um sotaque brasileiro e tambem nao poderiamos esperar que ele falasse com o sotaque baiano por exemplo. (o estado brasileiro em que eu nasci.) Meus amigos no Reino Unido costumavam dizer: - 'Junior, o seu sotaque eh o seu sotaque. Voce tem seu proprio sotaque!'
E eu gosto disso. Pra mim, falar qualquer lingua (nao importa qual sera) tambem eh um jeito de expressar sentimentos e emocoes. Entao se voce fala uma lingua voce tem que falar do jeito que voce realmente fala. (nao falsifique o seu sotaque, parceiro!)



>>GRAMATICA


Brasileiros geralmente me dizem que eles tem uma gramatica pobre. Mas eu geralmente lhes digo para nao se preocuparem em relacao a isso. Ate os ingleses tambem tem um conhecimento pobre em gramatica. Como meu amigo Leo Tavares disse: - " Meu pai nao sabe muito sobre a gramatica do ingles." E tambem muitos ingleses que conheci me disseram que nao eram muito bons em gramatica tambem. E eles falavam ingles muito bem! Eu diria que isso eh relativo...

Eu nao estou dizendo que voces devem parar de estudar gramatica. Mas apenas nao deixem o fato de nao saberem gramatica muito bem se tornar uma barreira para que nao aprendam ingles de verdade (ou melhorar se voces jah tem algum conhecimento no ingles.)
